5 Games That Should Be on the Wii

By , About.com Guide

In an ideal world, every game should be on the Wii, and we could all play God of War and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion by waving our remote through the air. But some games have a design so perfect for the Wii remote that they would probably work better on the Wii than on whatever console they came out on. Sometimes such games do make their way to the Wii, as was the case with Okami: here’s a few games that really should make the transition but haven’t.

1. The Penumbra series

The Penumbra series (Overture, Black Plague and Requiem) is probably the single best fit for the Wii of any non-Wii game. A terrific horror-adventure game for the PC, Penumbra lets you pick up and move objects as though you had an actual hand. If you want to open a door you reach out, grab the handle and pull. It works well with a mouse, but it would work better with the Wii remote

Likely? Not very. Developers at Frictional Games have been asked about the possibility of a Wii Penumbra in forums and admit to having considering it, but it’s rare for small companies to make the leap from the straightforward world of PC games to the complex world of console games.
Closest Thing to It: The upcoming Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

2. EyeToy: AntiGrav

AntiGrav was the best of the EyeToy games, which were controlled by body read by the PS2’s EyeToy camera. AntiGrav lets the player ride a hover board down a mountain; you lean for turns, jump for jumps and do stunts by waving your arms around. But AntiGrav has the basic problem of all EyeToy games; if the lighting isn’t just right the camera has trouble keeping track of your movements. But with a balance board and the Wii remote, AntiGrav would play almost perfectly.

Likely? Probably not. I don’t think the game was a particularly big hit and developer Harmonix is probably raking in too much money with Guitar Hero and Rock Band to make a futuristic skiing game for the Wii.
Closest Thing to It: Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip

3. Space Channel 5

A goofy rhythm game for the Dreamcast, Space Channel 5 was a silly piece of fluff that was as much about flash as gameplay. Since the game was focused on copying alien dance moves, it wouldn’t be a stretch to use the Wii remote to emulate the alien invaders.

Likely? Who knows. There were rumors of a Wii game, Space Channel 5.0, but publisher SEGA spoiled the fun with a denial. But I’m still hoping.
Closest Thing to It: Samba de Amigo, I suppose, but that's not very close.

4. Katamari Damacy

Since Katamari Damacy is a game in which a guy pushes a growing ball with his two arms, it seems perfect for the Wii remote, as you could simply guide the ball by tilting your hands. And with its colorful, family-friendly look, the game looks like the sort of thing you’d expect on a Nintendo game console.

Likely? More so than not. There were rumors of a Wii version of the sequel Beautiful Katamari, and while it appears that project is dead, the game’s director hinted to a writer at 1up.com that there would be a Katamari Wii game at some point.
Closest Thing to It: Nothing, absolutely nothing.

5. The Fight Night Series

The Fight Night games are the ultimate boxing games, with a beautiful control scheme that is simple but smart. (The only one I played is Fight Night Round 2, but my understanding is they all have a similar approach). The Wii could really use a smart boxing game, so I nominate this one.

Likely? Probably. Developer/publisher Electronic Arts is pretty good on sports games for the Wii, and it’s an obvious fit.
Closest Thing to It: Punch-Out!
