X-Men Legends Profile for Parents:

X-men Legends is an action role-playing game based on the X-men franchise. Throughout the game you control many of the characters that are staples of the X-men comics, including Wolverine, Ice-man, Storm, and others. The action takes place from above, with up to four players playing at once, each with their own character. As an action RPG, your character gets stronger as they kill more enemies, normally using either their fists, weapons, or special powers to do the damage. X-men Legends requires mild problem solving abilities, normally figuring out that you can hit a wall many times over in order to break through it. The violence and blood descriptors are well deserved. Different buttons are used for more or less powerful fist attacks, and learning which attack combinations do the most damage is a chief element of the gameplay. While the characters on the screen are not particularly large (the camera is fairly high off the ground), the character animations are quite detailed, and blood flying from the combatants is visible.

Beyond Violence:

Violence level aside, X-men Legends relies on a number of play elements that are relatively complicated and probably not best suited for players younger than the Teen rating, anyway. The RPG elements of the game require that players earn points during play, and then use those points to increase different stats for their characters, such as strength, which makes attacks do more damage. While the fundamentals of the game are basically what's referred to as a “hack and slash," meaning the focus is on fighting, the more in-depth elements and story style obviously target the Teen demographic. It's best for 13-year-olds and older.
