Interesting Note:
- When we here at About.com attempted to reproduce the graphic change, it took us less than 5 minutes to edit the sprite in a similar way using software from the Internet. We turned ours into a little smiling face, though.
The 12 Differences of Super Mario Brothers 2 and Doki Doki Panic (Part I)

Most of the elements changed in Doki Doki Panic are minor, with only one or two gameplay changes. Replacing graphics is basically what they did in order to prepare Mario 2 for a U.S. and European release. In Mario 2, the characters throw magic potions in order to open secret doors. In Doki Doki, it's a magic lamp.
