Article Introduction:

When a gamer decides to purchase a new console, buying the most popular system isn't always the best thing to do. Too often consumers buy based on which system is selling best, or whether or not the developer is Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft.

None of these things change the gaming experience.

In this article we use data from GameRankings.com to compare the Sony PSP and the Nintendo DS. Which system had better games in 2005? For all the hype about the power of the PSP and the touchscreen of the DS, does one system offer a better gaming experience than the other?

We compare the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP based on the only measure that matters: Their games, and the reviews from thousands of sources across the web.

The result?

Sony started strong, but failed to deliver a steady flow of well-rated games in 2005. Nintendo started sluggish, but managed to deliver a series of brilliant games in the second half of the year. One year in, both are neck-to-neck.

But in the last six months, Nintendo wins by nearly 3-to-1.

The only system comparison that matters is defined by Sony slipping and Nintendo rising to the occasion.
