Yesterday, Rayman Legends was a Wii U exclusive coming to game stores on February 26. But as of today, publisher Ubisoft has announced that the game will be a multi-platform title coming out this September.
For Wii U gamers this is a very disheartening announcement, both because it delays one of the most anticipated Wii U games, and because it suggests that Ubisoft is already losing faith in the new console. Clearly the only reason it is being delayed for the Wii U is so it can be released simultaneously on all platforms (games with solid publishing dates don't suddenly get shifted seven months into the future), making this a bit of a "screw you" to Wii U fans.
This is also a rather odd choice, since Rayman Legends was very specifically designed for asynchronous c0-op gameplay using the Wii U gamepad. Since the 360 and PS3 don't have gamepads, this means they will have to rework the game to make it playable on all platforms. Will this multi-platform decision result in a worse Rayman Legends for the Wii U? It's possible. Either way, I suspect a lot of us are dropping the game from our "most anticipated" lists.
