I've heard of a few ways to stream media from my PC to my Wii U, but since PlayOn won't run on my faltering computer and I never figured out how to properly configure Window's Internet Information Services, I couldn't successfully stream a video to the Wii U until I tried the Plex Media Server, a free, nicely designed application that lets you stream you video and audio files to various devices.
Currently Plex doesn't work perfectly with the Wii U, as it will only play sound on files encoded with the AAC audio format; the developers are reportedly working on a fix. Still, I've been using Plex quite a bit as is, so I've written a step-by-step guide for those who are interested in trying it out. Read How to Stream Media to the Wii U With Plex Media Server.
