Anyone who has a Wii U knows that the first time you start it up the console will want to spend an hour updating itself. Since waking up Christmas morning, tearing open your presents, finding a new console, and then not playing with it for an hour isn't much fun, Nintendo posted this on their facebook page: "Are you giving Wii U as a gift? We recommend opening the Wii U and performing a system update prior to wrapping so that it's ready to play as soon as it's opened!"
Remember that once you start the update, you must not unplug your Wii U until the update is finished or it will brick the thing.
