In the latest Iwata Asks, which interviews the team who developed the Wii U's Internet browser, it was revealed that websites can use javascript to recognize the Wii U and access its buttons, sticks and gyro sensor to use in their navigation.
Recently Nintendo released the specs of their browser. It doesn't support plug-ins, such as Adobe Flash. It does support the latest web standard, HTML5, and in fact in tests show it to be the best HTML5 browser of any existing game console.
It sounds like it's going to be a pretty solid experience.
