A lot of websites are reporting that the EBGames in Australia and some other foreign online sites will let you pre-order a Wii U for about $600. It's got people buzzing. After the debacle of the 3DS, would Nintendo really charge such a prohibitive price, or is this just a temporary placeholder price with no bearing on the actual cost of the coming console?
What these "news" sites aren't telling you is, EBGames Australia has had that price up since at least June. So it's not exactly a fresh rumor.
Will the Wii U cost $600? I'm inclined to say absolutely not. I don't think Nintendo could sell it at the price. The only way it's that price is if it's bundled with several games and extra controllers. My best guess right now would be $400 to $450; Nintendo has learned how disastrous overpricing a new console can be.
