Child "Celebrity" Has Her Own Video Game
Thursday May 28, 2009
A little girl who came in second in an English talent show now has her own video game. Woo-hoo!
From the press release:
Data Design Interactive - a successful video games publisher and games developer, are pleased to announce that Connie Talbot the singing sensation who came to fame from the massively popular UK based talent show ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ will be attending the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) ... to promote her highly anticipated Nintendo Wii video game “Connie Talbot Over The Rainbow Sing-a-Long” which is scheduled for summer 2009. Its 12 tracks include songs from her debut album, 'Over The Rainbow', but with specially designed videos and backscene footage. Players can sing solo in karaoke mode or with friends and family members for some multiplayer fun.Is it really so hard to get real celebrities to attach their names to video games? Is Connie Talbot really a name that's going to move a lot of games? And, most importantly, why don't I have a video game? I sing too, you know!

I’d like to get a Wii game created for Squash, in preparation for Squash being entered as a new sport in the 2016 olympics. Can you help me? Thanks!
There’s nothing yet. According to this thread there is someone connected to the World Squash Federation trying to figure out how to create one, but it sounds like they don’t really know what they’re doing, so who knows if it will happen.
Sigh — yes, that’s me. Nintendo makes it tough to become a Wii developer. The bar is set pretty high.
I take it you mean the bar for entry. Nintendo seems to set the bar for quality pretty low, judging by all the Wii shovelware. Good luck getting the game made.
Squash is the #1 sport for fitness in the world, according to Forbes, and some of the more successful Wii games are in the racquet and fitness areas. I’d think that a squash game for the Wii would be a natural fit.
If you know some strong developers, would you pass the idea of a Wii squash game along to them? I am doing this as a favor to the guys shepherding squash through the IOC selection process, so I really don’t care about attribution, etc. I can get your developer quite a bit of promotion from the professional squash community. Just let me know.
Sorry, I don’t know too many developers; I mainly just deal with PR people. Your best bet might simply be to lobby the people who make Olympic video games to simply include squash. I don’t know who will do the next one of those, and I don’t know if anyone has even got the rights yet, but in terms of getting squash in a game that might be easier than starting from scratch.
OK, thanks!
This is amazing what a simple student can do to inspire game producers and potential gamers out there. This reminded me of an article I read about a student who was in crisis but was able to make it through because of games. http://www.goarticles.com/cgi-bin/showa.cgi?C=1421576
